Rossi's Match Pair

We have looked at several youth model firearms for first time shooters. Many were just too large for younger, smaller shooters to handle safely. However, there is one youth firearm on the market that stands above the rest for small, young shooters.

It is is Rossi's Match Pair combo.

All of our children have been shooting the Rossi Match Pair long before we even began to publish the magazine. It is great little combo. Here is a review on the .410/.22 match pair.

Details

- Single shot, hinge or break action
- Weight: 5.65 pounds
- Length: 31.5 inches (w/ .22); 35 inches (w/ .410)
- Length of pull (butt to trigger): 12.5 inches
- Stock Finish - walnut or synthetic
- Barrel Finish: blued or stainless steel

What We Liked

There are many things we liked about this matched pair. Here are a few:

- The storage case is very nice and a great way to transport the gun.

- The overall size of this set really fits small, young shooters well.

- The barrels can be changed very easily and quickly.

- The barrel for the .22 caliber is already tapped for a scope, which can be a very nice addition to this firearm.

- The cost is very inexpensive considering you get two guns for the price.

What We Did Not Like

There were not really many things we did not like about this firearm. However, there were a few small things we might like to see changed.

- The safety is nice and large for young shooters, but the location is on the side of the body which is different than most firearms.

- If you put a sling on the firearm it makes changing the barrels a little more inconvenient. Detachable swivels might help this problem.

- Removal of .spent .410 shells with ribbed plastic casings were a problem.

Overall Performance

The matched pair performed vary well with both barrels. The site on the .22 barrel is very accurate from the factory and easy to make fine adjustments. The accuracy for the .22 was good with young shooters. The spent casings were extracted very cleanly.

The .410 shotgun barrel performed equally well. The pattern with the modified barrel was very good out to 20 yards which is sufficient distance for young shooters. In shooting .410 slugs with the barrel, the accuracy was unbelievable.

Overall Product Summary

The Rossi Matched Pair is one of the best youth model firearms on the market in our opinion. It’s size makes it the perfect firearm for small shooters and you cannot beat the cost of $170 MSRP for two guns.

The firearm performs well in the field, with the exception of the extraction of ribbed, plastic casings of some .410 shells. It is lightweight and easily carried by the smallest shooters. The lightweight does cause a little recoil with the shotgun but this can be prevented by using a slip on recoil reduction product.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, quality firearm for a young hunter, this is a great one to consider. The options available in various caibers and gauges allow parents to choose a firearm that fits a variety of needs.

We recommend you check out the Matched Pair if you are looking for a gun for a beginning shooter. We do not think you will be disappointed.
